Canadian Adaptive Fashion Alliance Incubation

Collaborators include Silverts, City of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI)

With 41% of adults in disability communities reporting that access to appropriate clothing was a challenge in recent years, there is growing demand for fashion adapted for people finding standard sizing and fasteners inaccessible. KITE is incubating the Adaptive Fashion Zone: a collaborative space for co-learning and co-creation that connects the disability community, fashion designers, medical researchers, hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers to promote universal and inclusive design across the apparel industry.

The Adaptive Fashion Zone is part of the ongoing momentum KITE Creates has built through its successful “Technology & Apparel” technical workshop learning series and Creators Circle’s program, which has supported a variety of adaptive and wearable tech ventures. There is a demand for this type of collaborative space and KITE Creates is planning on shaping it to be an interdisciplinary community that centres accessibility.
